Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register my school to participate in the K-12 InVenture Prize?

School-wide registration opens online in early September. When a school is registered, it gives us an estimate of how many teams we can expect to register for State Finals. It also indicates what school are implementing the K-12 InVenture Prize curriculum in their classrooms/clubs/etc. so we know how to support each program and update our research data.

Is there a fee to register?

There is a $75 registration fee per school regardless of how many teams are participating from each school.  Payment can be made online via credit card.  Other payment options must be approved by the K-12 InVenture Prize administration.

How many teams from each school can register in September?

A school may register as many teams as needed; however, there is no guarantee that more than one team from each school will be eligible to participate in State Finals.  Schools that have several teams participating usually conduct their own internal competition to determine their school's eligible team.

What is Mock Pitch Day?

Mock Pitch Day, scheduled for late October, is an opportunity for teams to submit a video of their InVenture Prize project for judges to provide feedback.  There is no additional cost to participate. Pitch Day is optional and does not affect the outcome of State Finals participation.

When must a team register for State Finals?

School Registration for K12 InVenture Prize opens in September and closes October. State Finals registration opens late January and closes mid February.

What is the maximum team size?

The maximum team size is three people.  We accept solo member teams, but we do not recommend it.

How many teams can I bring to State Finals?

Participation in state finals depends on an online qualifier. Spots for the online qualifier will be allocated based on the number of participants at your school. Approximately 100 teams will be invited to State Finals at Georgia Tech on March 11, 2020. The team registration cost for state finals is $100.

How many students/parents/etc. can I bring to campus?

You are responsible for bringing enough chaperones to accompany your group.  We will invite as many additional students and parents as we can accommodate.  If your group is planning to attend the Georgia Tech InVenture Prize after the State Finals, we will have limited ticket availability.  We will inform you of your approximate ticket allotment by February preceding the State Finals.

Who judges the State Finals?

A select group of Georgia Tech professors, staff and alumni serve as judges in addition to community supporters and STEM professionals.

Are there prizes awarded?

Yes.  First, Second and Third place prizes in the Elementary, Middle School and High School divisions are awarded in addition to several specialty awards.
